Fitness rules for the NPC and most other organizations consist of 3 rounds. Round 1 is a two-piece suit. The contestants are required to do ¼ turns and are judged on symmetry, degree of firmness, proportion and overall physical appearance. The competitors should not have the size, definition, or vascularity seen in bodybuilding, but should have shape to their muscles. The 2nd round is a 2 minute routine consisting of four aspects. They are: strength, flexibility, cardiovascular, and overall package. Judges are looking for creativity, stage presence, outfits, make up, creativity, and degree of difficulty. The national level requires 6 mandatory moves: 1 arm pushups, straddle hold, and leg extension hold demonstrate strength. High kicks, side split, and front split demonstrate flexibility. The final round is a one piece suit and is judged the same as round 1. Typically as in figure the classes are divided by height. Scott’s Training Systems will aid in pre- contest nutrition, resistance training, posing for rounds 1 and 3, and will help find an individual to assist in the routine.
We have trained several women for fitness competitions. With all of them placing in the top 5, including Sharon Shimkus (1st place ABA March 07), Natalie Simmons (1st place ABA June 07), and Mindy Woodyard (1st place in both NPC November shows 07). Our client Mary Walters (featured lower right) was trained by e-mail. She sent in her pictures, diet, and workout on a weekly basis and we made the necessary adjustments to help her place 1st in California and compete in Nationals in November 2006.
