So you want to make some changes? Or at least that’s what you’re telling yourself. How do you know if you’re really ready to make changes? Research has shown it can take up to 66 days (over 2 months) for a change to become a habit. Some feel 28 days, but either way it’s not just over night and it takes time and consistency. Both of which are a challenge and for many they don’t have the patience. Asking yourself these following questions before you “Commit” will assure you better equipped to make long lasting changes.
- On a scale of 1-10 how ready are you to change? Whether it’s finding time to exercise more, read more, eat less sugar, spend time with your family, etc… Rate it and if it’s not a 9 or 10, you’re probably not going to stick to it.
- Why have you not found the time to make this change in the past? What “obstacles” and/or excuses have you used to not change?
- What habit(s) do you currently have that are counterproductive to this positive change?
- What will happen if you don’t make this change? On a scale of 1-10 how “uncomfortable” will be if you don’t make this change?
- What is the smallest step you can take to make a positive change?
- What does success look like to you? Both short term and long term?
- Who can you recruit to help you stay on track?
Taking the time to go through the above questions before embarking on your next “goal” will help you stay on track and become the best version of yourself. I also suggest you get someone close to you to go through these questions and both of you share your answers to assure you stay focused.
